I agree there should be term limits also. It gets around the idea of ageism. I also think term limits should be on every single position, judge, senators, representatives, presidents, vps, everything.
I have loathed voting over the last decade, its like no one really wants to represent so we get stuck with whatever is left. What we need is someone who can ignite passion and compassion as to our way of life. I was also a Bernie fan back a few years, but you know what happened.
I have been registered independent for a while now, I just don't buy into either party any more. Its kind of hard to considering they wont even hear each other out. When you want for everything, you usually end up with nothing...and here we are.
I don't think ageism applies here. I think people might say that, but it's literally the most crucial leadership position in the country and we already have term limits for POTUS. If we can say the president has to be 35 or older to be eligible, we can say there's an upper limit also. For the same reasons (too young = too inexperienced; too old = possible mental and physical decline that risks national security etc). But yes, term limits for judges and all the rest.
For a guy "who hardly seems to know where he is half the time," this has been one of the most active legislative four years in recent memory - and most of it has been bipartisan. Do you even remember what state this country was in four years ago? I know it feels like forever, but it literally felt like the world was ending. Then when we came out of the pandemic, it seemed like people were just insane and there would never be a return to anything approaching "normal." Yeah, we have challenges, but while I un-enthusiastically filled in the circle next to his name in 2020, in 2024 I will be happy to do so. He's earned it as far as I'm concerned. But he does need to make the case for how he is going to continue to IMPROVE things in the next four years. And for god's sake, something needs to be done about housing nationwide. That's the big one. But what's clear is one party is barely functioning due to a huge chunk of its members being beholden to a chaos agent, and the other is working to make people's lives better.
Who cares? Honestly who cares at all about any of this. His polling is horrible. Even if his administration has done good work (and certainly it's been better than the previous four years, that goes without saying) even the vast majority of liberals I know think he's senile and way too old to run. And arrogant for running again. That arrogance will get Trump elected, and whatever good Biden's term has done will be undone in a heartbeat.
So cool. He did fine for four years. Now it's about to end and we're back to the dark days because *he was too old to run again* and the electorate does not have faith in him because of it. So yeah, I mean talk up the Democrats all you want, but they fucked up hard and the "chaos agent" is coming back because of it.
Dude. Trump isn't going to win. He's not. Bookmark this. Polling is not a predictor. It represents a moment in time. People are using polling the wrong way. "The polls" have 'predicted' a "red tsunami" in the last two elections that utterly failed to happen. Remember when FOX and Newsmax and the right-wing echo chamber had "internal polling" that showed the GOP running away with things? It never happened. And look at what's going on in the House. The entire party is in disarray. Use that as your starting place for deep breathing.
He is not going to win. There are other arguments I could make here, but there isn't any point. You won't believe me anyway. But trust me. It's not gonna happen.
And remember - only 30-40% of Americans listen/read the news. The campaign hasn't started yet and Biden has a shitload of money to spend on advertising and outreach, while Trump's ground operations are shit. His team is panicking that they've exhausted their donor list.
People only start paying attention after labor day. If you're following this shit, you're in the minority. We both are.

Sad commentary on the hold the "two" parties have, that out of 330MM people, these are the two that the system puts forth.
I suspect many people feel like you do.
Why else would an earnest but flaky candidate like RFK Jr (who is getting the cold shoulder from the press) be polling in the teens?
Yeah, it's a terrible system. RJK Jr is a bit of an odd duck, but at least he's not 81 and senile or 77 and a crook. What a disaster.

Sure buddy
Stay snarky.
