I’ve always loved Stephen King and his horror writing, but over time he has allowed his Trump Derangement Syndrome and far left “progressive” woke nonsense to enter in…

And, sadly, his heavy-handed approach can at times serve to yank you out of the story he is writing.

The same is true for some of his son’s writing as well (“Joe Hill”). Guess it’s a family hazard.

Of course, everyone has the right to make political statements, and if you are on the Loony Left and full of hate for President Trump, you may find it satisfying.

But…you risk alienating half the country… and while one may think that’s cool, it has the really and truly awful effect at times of ruining the art and coming off as deranged political screed.

I'm in the middle of reading this book. I'm continuing because it was given to me at our writers club and I want to be able to comment on it. I absolutely agree with everything you said. I'm finding it hard to carry on - on page 279, and beginning to find it laborious. I think the writing is quite sloppy, for an acclaimed author who has written so much. I'm finding the numerous clichés rather tedious. Yes, we're in a fairytale, but does it have to have every trope under the sun?! I'm not sure if it is because I am not American, but some of the dialogue is weak and nonsensical to me.

As I said, I will finish it, but it's definitely not getting a 5⭐ review!

I prefer outsider the book to the TV series and the Mr Mercedes books were far superior to the TV series, season 1 was very enjoyable but downhill after that.

Were you able to finish the novel? Did it pick up or continue to diminish with out-of-place political sentiments?

King's politics are the real horror story.

Finally read article, as said to tweet agreed with first 2 points & why, same as you. Interestingly enough, 2018's Outsider & Elevation we're his last books I was thoroughly engrossed in and truly enjoyed. Institute was gross, horrible & child psychological & physical abuse. Most of it made me emotional & physically ill. And I did like Outsider TV ending better....can't wait for his Sept. release "Holly", maybe he'll go back to the good writing with hero Ms. Gibney...fingers crossed!
