One curious reaction I’ve seen on Twitter the last couple days is all the people claiming things like “Christians want to be oppressed so bad” because I tweeted this:
The immediate assumption is that I identify as Christian (I’m agnostic though I was raised Christian and do think Jesus had a few good things to say) or conservative (I’m a mixed bag politically but have never voted for a Republican) or that I somehow want to be offended or outraged specifically because something was said about Christians.
All Christians are evil oppressors, after all, and also all Christians are constantly looking to play the victim card. Of course, what people don’t realize is that in game journalism and woke media (which is most media that isn’t explicitly rightwing these days) Christians are personas non grata. That goes for pop culture also.
But Twitter, man. Twitter.
It’s a grab-bag of bad faith takes, bad faith assumptions and stereotypes. Lots and lots of personal attacks, name-calling, screechy self-righteous nonsense and so on and so forth. Hysterical echo chambers. People are so angry about me saying that Kotaku’s take is childish. It’s bizarre! The fact the tweet has any traction at all is bizarre.
This is the woke movement on Twitter in a nutshell. A mob of very unpleasant, deeply delusional and self-important people who aren’t at all interested in social justice causes, preferring to spend their time howling and screaming about how terrible the Problematic Thing Or Person de jour is and how good and just they are by comparison.
What a weird way to spend your time. It’s very puzzling. It seems like an unhealthy place to be in mentally and spiritually.
It’s also deeply disconnected from reality, from the day-to-day lives of normal people working and living and doing normal things like going to church or baseball games or playing Call Of Duty or taking their kids to the park. These people who spend way too much time online start to lose a grip on reality, I think, and it shows in their interactions on social media.
Anyways, I made a video about this Scott Cawthon / FNAF / Kotaku thing and why I think tolerance should be extended even to those we disagree with, even to the horrible Christians out there, literally all of whom are tirelessly working to destroy the LGBTQ movement—because there are apparently no liberal Christians, no gay Christians, and we should totally blanket judge entire groups of people based solely on their faith (or race or gender, yay!)
Behold, monstrous me:
Thanks for watching. Please do subscribe to my YouTube channel and, if you like, to this Substack as well. I appreciate it. Much love.
Interesting that you were brought up Christian and then became agnostic. So was I, and so did I. Then I realised that Jesus replaced all the old commandments with, basically, love one another. That's the way I try to live now. Full stop. If all the right wing Christians actually read the bible they'd realise that being LBGTQ is fine, but being racist, sexist, oppressive or unkind is absolutely not. God loves everyone, just the way they are. It's a shame so many so called Christians do not.
You're spot on about the Twitter woke mob. Just so out of touch with everyday life and people, and so narcissistic. Twitter itself does nothing but encourage it.
I got suspended there today because I told @smod4real, Sweet Meteor of Death, a satire account, that he should immolate himself in a sun, and that, apparently, was encouraging suicide.
The entire platform is run by, and most of it seems filled by, people with no perspective and no sense of humor. Which is unfortunate, as it can be a very useful tool for spreading news, information, and opinion when everyday folk use it.
