Behold, a really stunning new poster for the next Mass Effect game which we know next to nothing about and which will likely not release for several more years:
BioWare released the poster this weekend for N7 Day. You can download the hi-res version here.
Here is the crew standing near their ship:
They’re awfully tiny so it’s hard to make out what species each of them is, but I’m pretty sure that’s a Krogan on the bottom left. If nothing else, four characters could be a clue as to the game’s party size.
And here is the ship itself:
This is a new ship to the Mass Effect universe. It’s emblazoned with the letters SFX (the Normandy had SR1 on it) which is actually pretty interesting since it was the codename for Mass Effect before that game came out originally.
Then there is the body of what appears to be a Geth:
People have pointed out that the crater itself—on this moon or asteroid or whatever it is—looks like a Geth’s singular eye. That could hint at . . . something. Which of the RGB endings was “canon” for one thing, since the ending Shepard chooses in Mass Effect 3 determines the outcome of all synthetic life in the galaxy.
The game is set far into the future, long after the events of the original trilogy. It’s unclear where the game takes place—in our galaxy, in Andromeda or in both. We can’t even be certain whether or not BioWare will retcon details from the original trilogy and just reboot this series how they see fit.
It’s possible some of these characters are ones we’re familiar with—Krogan and Asari can live up to a thousand years or more; Geth are basically immortal. Wrex or Liara could show up. The teaser trailer certainly makes a Liara appearance seem likely:
The ship in the poster is obviously not the same as the one in this teaser trailer. That’s apparently a Mudskipper. BioWare released this artwork a while back, showing the ship and its crew on an alien planet:
Zoom in a bit on the crew:
We have on the middle left the silhouette of Jaal, an Angara—a species only found in Andromeda. But directly next to him on the middle right and far right are a Drell and a Salarian respectively. The Drell never made it to Andromeda (at least not during Mass Effect: Andromeda). So we have an Angara from Andromeda and a Drell in this artwork, meaning the next Mass Effect could very easily take place in multiple galaxies. It’s hard to say.
These are not the same four characters in the new poster image, of course. At least, there is no Krogan in this image. Of course, you’ll likely make many allies and have more than four crewmates to choose from on your various missions and quests.
What do you make of these images? Let me know in the comments and thanks for reading and subscribing!
Anyone playing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous? I'm really enjoying it - I loved Kingmaker, and this seems as good - but Owlcat definitely releases their games a little... unpolished. I'm wondering if I should put it aside for a year or so until they've had a chance to update it.
Plus I picked the Crusader class as my main, and it's feeling like maybe the other classes are more exciting.
Man, I am looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3, even though I can already smell the disappointment looming. I'm hearing too many "no, it's really good! It's just not really a Baldur's Gate game, you know? It's closer to DOS 2." Ugh. Please don't let that be the case.
I don't know. Not trying to be a pill, but I was very happy that I never played the third game. I loved ME 1 & 2, but when some bleh reports about the third one began to circulate I decided to skip it. I think that was probably the right thing to do. I don't really know anything about Andromeda. And because there's something wrong with me, I probably won't be willing to play ME 5 unless I play 3 & 4 first.
Sorry, not a very helpful post.
