I'm Relaunching My YouTube Channel As A Video Companion To Diabolical
Substack meet YouTube, YouTube meet Substack.
I used to make YouTube videos. But when we moved into our new house and I lost my home office, I just sort of stopped. Looking back, I stopped doing a lot of stuff at that point. I was in a band, but that home office was also my recording studio and practice space and I just never really got back into making music.
I love our new house but it’s a lot smaller than the townhouse we were in before. It has a yard, which is great, but it didn’t have any spare rooms to set up in and while I rented an office for a while, it never felt private enough to really record videos or make music. Then, when we got a puppy (and then another puppy) I found myself staying home most of the time and working from the dining room table.
One thing after another, and then the pandemic and even less privacy and even less time and while I kept meaning to revive the channel, I never did.
Until today.
Back in the day I covered a lot of things on my channel and I aim to pick back up where I left off, though with a bit more focus. Basically, it’s going to be a blend of the stuff I cover here at diabolical and at my Forbes blog. So I’ll discuss topics like Six Days In Fallujah, or Anita Sarkeesian’s bad take on Israel, or why we should be careful about erasing our history—even, and perhaps especially, the more troubling aspects of our history.
But I’ll also review games, talk about why The Walking Dead is so frustrating (or why Fear The Walking Dead is so godawful) and drop the occasional movie review as well. Mix in some personal essays, some book reviews, etc. and you have diabolical on YouTube as well as Substack. I may also do some game streaming.
Oh, and the diabolical podcast is also in the works. I’m working on lining up some guests for the first few episodes and will hopefully have that up and running this summer, which is exciting. I miss the Two-Player Podcast with Paul Tassi, but I fear that’s run its course. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still talk about games, movies and TV shows with other clever, interesting people.
In any case, I’d love it if you’d subscribe to my YouTube channel and toss a comment and a like in the video above. Expect to see lots more videos accompanying these posts—and feel free to watch or ignore them as you see fit.
In related YouTube news, I’ll also be hosting a weekly show for the fledgling Forbes Games YouTube channel tentatively titled “Next Week In Video Games” which will do just that: Look at what’s coming next week in video games and preview that for viewers, whether it’s new games, big updates or new seasons, patches, DLC or whatever. Upcoming game shows, game previews and all the rest. So lots on the video front which is just one of many reasons I’ve been working my ass off and trying to lose weight! Paul Tassi will be covering the big video game news item of the week for that channel as well—he covered Epic vs Apple most recently.
In any case, thanks as always. Y’all are the best.
