Come Check Out My New Writing Gig At VOICE
It's a cool new startup where you can support creators without spending a dime, or dealing with pesky ads or paywalls.
On top of my ongoing work at Forbes and here at diabolical and soon at a revamped YouTube channel and probably also on Twitch where me and my boys are going to start streaming our Call Of Duty shenanigans, I have yet another gig that I just started this past week.
I’m now an official content creator at a very cool new startup called Voice. You can read my introductory post here.
Voice is a cool new site that’s part blogging platform, part social media site with a twist. For one thing, you have to be a real person to join. No bots flooding the pages with ads or propaganda.
For another, it’s entirely built with cryptocurrency. Everything on the site is built using crypto instead of more traditional coding which makes it incredibly secure. I will admit, I’m not entirely sure how it all works. These newfangled contraptions are beyond my ken.
One very cool thing about Voice, however, is how it allows content creators, independent journalists and creatives to flourish. When you sign up for the site, you’re given a daily allowance of tokens. These tokens are used to “voice” content around the site. Voicing content causes it to rise to the top, and allows whoever the “top voice” is to show up at the top of the post.
Voicing tokens to posts directly supports creators like yours truly not only by making our content more visible. The more my readers engage with my posts on Voice, the more I can write directly for my readers, creating content that’s interesting and engaging instead of just geared toward garnering traffic and appealing to Google.
As my long-time colleague Jason Evangelho put it in one of his posts on Voice, this means we’re writing for people rather than algorithms or search engines (though we still need reader support, of course!) As I noted here in my very first issue of diabolical, over the past few years I’ve increasingly had to write content that will get the most traffic rather than content I really care about. Between this newsletter and this new opportunity at Voice, I feel like I can start moving back toward writing I really love to write, and that hopefully you’ll really love to read.

Suffice to say, this is all incredibly freeing. It’s much like Substack, where readers can contribute directly to writers by subscribing for a monthly fee—except at Voice you don’t have to spend any money at all. Crazy!
Right now there’s a waitlist to join Voice, but I’ve been told that this weekend they’re fast-tracking sign-ups so it’s a great time to make the leap. Sign up here.
You’ll need an Android or iOS phone to sign up as it requires the app to do so (to verify you’re a real human). But if you would like to check out a cool new startup that’s really aiming to get away from ads (there are none) and search (it’s irrelevant for the most part) and create something more organic and human using, of all things, crypto as software (rather than just investment or currency) you should come on over and sign up. I’d love to have all my long-time readers and, um, new-time readers there. Future readers, too!
If you have any questions, ask away in the comments. And never fear, dear readers, this newsletter isn’t going anywhere.
If you’ve missed recent issues, the latest is my review of Judas and the Black Messiah.
Love and peace to you all, my droogies.
This is awesome. I just joined the mailing list, so hopefully I'll be able to interact on Voice soon :)
